It is an honor to be considered for an at-large member role on the Committee for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at WCU. My interest in serving stems from a strong commitment to advancing innovative pedagogy through interdisciplinary collaboration and reflective practice. I am particularly passionate about exploring new instructional models, particularly for diverse learners, technology integration, and evidence-based strategies that enhance learning across contexts. I value collaborative spaces and relationships that push teaching and learning forward in meaningful ways. The ongoing partnerships I maintain within the field also provide valuable insight into the evolving needs of today’s educational workforce, a perspective I would be excited to bring to this role. Erin Hipple

Department: Graduate Social Work

I am pleased to submit my nomination for the Committee for Excellence in Teaching and Learning At-Large Representative. My work as an educator and scholar centers on innovative, creative, and justice-centered pedagogy that fosters meaningful student engagement.

My scholarship, including a recent interdisciplinary book chapter on the teaching legacy of bell hooks, informs my classroom practice, where I cultivate relational, embodied, and accessible learning environments that honor diverse identities and perspectives, build community, and strengthen critical thinking.

In my time as a faculty member in the Graduate Social Work Department, I have substantially reconceptualized three core courses, developed or co-developed three electives, and led the implementation of a program-wide Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) in which students demonstrate relational, client-centered suicide crisis assessment skills in an experiential simulation. I take great care in designing curriculum that deeply engages students, and I intentionally use student feedback to guide ongoing course development.

My teaching weaves together trauma-informed and embodied approaches with strong critical frameworks, fostering creativity, collaboration, and deep self-reflection. Grounded in community-engaged practice and cross-disciplinary collaboration, I prioritize generative, authentic dialogue and experiential learning that invites meaningful immersion.

I would be honored to contribute to advancing teaching and learning across our campus community.

Department: Honors

I am writing to express my interest in serving as an at large representative on the Committee for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. As a faculty member and Honors Director, I am deeply invested in fostering excellent teaching that supports student learning, intellectual engagement, and a strong sense of academic community across campus.

Through my work in the Honors College, I see how interdisciplinary learning can serve as a hub for cultivating academic excellence across the university. Honors courses and programs often function as spaces for pedagogical experimentation, bringing together faculty and students from across disciplines to explore new approaches to inquiry, discussion, assessment, and experiential learning. I am especially interested in how these insights can inform teaching practices beyond Honors and contribute to a shared campus culture of thoughtful, intentional pedagogy.

A central throughline in my teaching is curiosity-driven inquiry, helping students learn how to ask better questions, stay with challenging problems, and engage ideas with openness and intellectual humility. I would be excited to help CELT create spaces, through book and podcast clubs, professional development grants, and campus-wide programming, where faculty can explore curiosity not only as a student outcome, but as a guiding principle for teaching itself.

I have been involved with the Teaching Excellence Network through CETL and was actively engaged with the Center for Teaching and Learning at my former institution. As someone still relatively new to West Chester, I am eager to deepen my connections with teacher scholars across the university and see CELT as an ideal forum for that work.

Department: Honors College

I, Zachary Wooten, am seeking to serve as an At-Large Representative on the Committee for Excellence in Learning and Teaching because of my deep commitment to advancing innovative, collaborative approaches to teaching and learning. My passion for interdisciplinary inquiry is grounded in my work as a leadership educator and community-engaged pedagogue.

Through this work, I strive to create learning environments that connect theory and practice, foster critical reflection, and engage students with real-world challenges. Approaching teaching through an interdisciplinary and dialogical lens has reinforced my belief that excellence in learning emerges through relationship-building, experimentation, and the exchange of diverse perspectives.

As an At-Large Representative, I am eager to support colleagues in sharing ideas and learning from one another as we collectively adapt our roles as educators in a rapidly changing world. I am committed to fostering thoughtful collaboration and contributing to initiatives that prepare our students for meaningful lives and leadership beyond the classroom.
