Department: Mathematics

I am asking for your vote to serve on the PASSHE Faculty Council. As a system, we are facing numerous challenges in the years ahead including national threats to higher education, falling morale among faculty and students across all our universities, growing concerns of external influence on policy and curriculum, and continued fiscal uncertainty. The Faculty Council can advocate for policies that address these concerns and rebuff policies that exacerbate them. As a member of the Faculty Council, I will work to keep the concerns of the faculty at the forefront of every strategic discussion at the state level.

It is also important that the Faculty Council work in partnership with APSCUF, particularly as a new chancellor comes to PASSHE. I have served in leadership of APSCUF at both the local and state level for over 25 years. I was APSCUF president of West Chester for 6 years and on the local executive committee for over 20 years. I have served on the State APSCUF Executive Committee and as an APSCUF State Delegate for over 20 years. I served on APSCUF State Meet and Discuss for 15 years including 5 years as spokesperson/chair. I am still active at both the local and state level of APSCUF. In addition to my APSCUF experience, I have been on several university strategic planning committees, search committees for university administration including a presidential search and several dean searches, and system wide policy committees. In those positions, I have frequently discussed strategic policy with state system faculty and administration and reviewed dozens of state system policies.

In short, I have considerable experience with shared governance at the state and local level. More importantly, I believe my colleagues would say that I have been an outspoken advocate for the concerns of faculty while serving in these positions. I will do the same as a member of the Faculty Council. I will be a strong and experienced voice for the faculty of West Chester and PASSHE and humbly ask for your support.

Jason Thomas Wozniak

Department: Educational Foundations and Policy Studi

For over a decade my research and scholar-activist work has focused on higher education in the United States and abroad. I have published extensively on the issues of student and university debt. Since arriving at West Chester, I have taught courses in Critical University Studies, Power and Privilege in Higher Education, and The History and Philosophy of Higher Ed. Prior to arriving at West Chester University I served on the San Jose State University Eboard of the California Faculty Association. I regularly participate in events with Debt Collective, and currently I am the Debt Collective delegate to Higher Education Labor United (HELU). HELU is a national organization founded in 2021 to unite workers throughout US higher education.

As a Faculty Council Representative I will work with partners to increase funding for all PASSHE campuses, reduce student debt, increase wages and benefits for ALL faculty and staff, and advocate for real, not just symbolic, shared-governance. Given my higher education experience, and stated aims, I hope I can win your support.
