Zachary Wooten

Department: Honors College

I, Zachary Wooten, am seeking to serve on the Council of Undergraduate Research because of a strong and sustained commitment to expanding and strengthening undergraduate research opportunities. Having previously served on the Council, I bring both experience and a clear understanding of its mission and impact.

Throughout my time at WCU, I have been consistently involved in initiatives that support undergraduate scholarship, including SURI and Research Day. These experiences have provided opportunities to work closely with students at various stages of their academic journeys, helping them develop confidence, refine research ideas, and present their work publicly. I regularly collaborate with students on research projects and am passionate about creating accessible pathways for students, especially those who may not initially see themselves as researchers, to become engaged in meaningful scholarly work.

Most recently, I have been working with Dr. Corbin on Ramifications, the student research journal, actively recruiting students and encouraging them to submit and showcase their research. This involvement reflects an ongoing dedication to mentoring students through the research and publication process and broadening participation in undergraduate scholarship.

Through continued service on the Council of Undergraduate Research, I would bring experience, enthusiasm, and a demonstrated commitment to fostering a vibrant culture of undergraduate research.
